Self-Cleaning Air Filter: Application Case in Blast Furnace Blower Station of Steel Plant


In the harsh high-temperature and dusty environment of the iron and steel metallurgy industry, blowers are critical to blast furnace operation—their stable performance directly impacts production efficiency and safety. For a steel company’s 3×2060m³ blast furnace project, 5 sets of electric blower units were each equipped with self-cleaning air filters. Installed ahead of the dehumidifier inlet in the blower station, these filters provide comprehensive protection for the blowers through effective filtration, serving as a typical example of industrial clean air supply.


Core Project Configuration:

Tailored for the air supply needs of large blast furnaces, this self-cleaning air filter boasts core parameters that meet industrial requirements:

1.With a rated air handling capacity of 13,000 Nm³/min, it matches the high air volume demand of large blowers, ensuring continuous and stable air supply.

2.Covering a filtration area of 18,900 square meters, it uses high-quality HV filter media imported from the USA, balancing excellent filtration efficiency and long service life.

3.Its core role is to block impurities at the source, preventing dust from entering the blower and reducing equipment wear and failure risks.

Three core technologies:

Three-Stage Filtration System

1.The pre-filter first traps large particles like catkins and leaves, preventing them from clogging subsequent filtration stages.

2.Primary and intermediate efficiency filter cotton captures over 90% of dust, reducing the load on main filter cartridges and extending their service life.

3.High-efficiency filter cartridges achieve 1-2μm precision filtration, with an outlet air filtration efficiency of 99.99%, delivering clean air for blowers.


Automatic Backwashing Cleaning

Full automation ensures non-stop operation:

1.Controlled by an intelligent PLC system, high-pressure air is regularly activated to backwash filter cartridges, minimizing manual intervention.

2.Cleaned dust automatically falls into a dust collection bin and is discharged at fixed intervals. The entire process is enclosed, reducing maintenance workload.


Intelligent Monitoring System

1.Key parameters such as differential pressure, temperature, and humidity are monitored 24/7, enabling real-time tracking of the filtration system’s performance.

2.An automatic alarm is triggered when differential pressure is abnormal, prompting timely maintenance and avoiding production disruptions caused by filtration failure.
