Explosion-Proof Safety Measures for Baghouse Dust Collectors Handling Flammable and Explosive Dust

In industrial production, when baghouse dust collectors are used to treat flammable and explosive dust, their explosion-proof safety measures are a key link to ensure production safety,

personnel life safety and stable equipment operation. To effectively prevent and control potential explosion risks, strict and comprehensive safety measures must be taken in terms of dust collector design,in-use monitoring and maintenance.

1. Safety Design of the Dust Collector Main Body

(1) Structural Design Optimization

In view of the treatment characteristics of flammable gas and flammable & explosive dust, the structural design of baghouse dust collectors needs targeted optimization.

The circular structure is a common and effective design form, which optimizes the flow path of dust in the dust collector and reduces dust accumulation in corners, edges and other parts.

Dust accumulation is one of the important factors causing explosions; a reasonable structural design can reduce the possibility of dust concentration reaching the lower explosive limit,

thus improving the safety of the dust collector.

(2) Scientific Material Selection

For material selection, dust filter bags, as the core filtration components of the dust collector, must be made of materials specially designed for fire and explosion protection.

Such filter bags not only have high-efficiency filtration performance, but also maintain structural stability under extreme conditions such as high temperature and open flame to prevent the spread of fire.

At the same time, the dust collector should be equipped with reliable pressure relief devices such as explosion-proof doors or rupture discs. When the internal pressure of the dust collector rises sharply

due to dust explosion or other reasons, the pressure relief device can open quickly to release the internal pressure, avoiding the rupture of the dust collector due to excessive pressure bearing,

thus protecting the safety of equipment and the surrounding environment.

(3) Ash Cleaning and Maintenance Management

Ash cleaning is an important link to maintain the safe operation of baghouse dust collectors. Continuous and effective ash cleaning can prevent excessive dust deposition inside the dust collector.

Prolonged dust accumulation will not only reduce dust removal efficiency, but also increase the risk of explosion. Therefore, a scientific and reasonable ash cleaning system should be formulated,

and the appropriate ash cleaning cycle and method should be determined according to the dust properties, concentration and the working load of the dust collector.

Common ash cleaning methods include pulse jet cleaning and mechanical rapping cleaning. Regular ash cleaning ensures that the dust concentration inside the dust collector is always within a safe range.

2. Safety Protection of Dust Removal Equipment Piping

(1) Key Design Points of Flue Gas Piping

The design of flue gas piping is crucial to prevent gas retention and explosion propagation. The piping should avoid dead corners, as dust and flammable gas are easy to accumulate in dead corners, forming explosion hazards.

At the same time, the smoothness of the piping must be ensured. By rationally designing the diameter, direction and slope of the piping, the air flow velocity is increased, enabling the gas to pass through the piping quickly,

reducing the residence time in the piping and effectively preventing gas retention.

(2) Rational Installation and Setting of Safety Valves

Installing safety valves on the piping in front of the fan is an important measure to deal with emergencies such as gas explosions. Safety valves are divided into upper and lower ones, with different installation positions and functions.

· Upper safety valve: Usually installed on the top of the flue. Under normal production conditions, it remains sealed by a water seal with a height generally set at 250mm. The water seal prevents external air

from entering the flue and avoids gas leakage from the flue. In case of intense combustion in the flue leading to a sharp rise in internal pressure, when the pressure exceeds the weight of the gland,

the safety valve will rush open the gland for emergency pressure relief, releasing the excessive pressure into the atmosphere to protect the flue and subsequent equipment from damage.

· Lower safety valve: Installed in front of the fan. Under normal production conditions, it remains closed under the action of a weight. A specific structure is welded at its internal pressure relief hole.

When the pressure in the dust collector or piping rises abnormally, the lower safety valve can open in time to release pressure, ensuring that the system pressure is maintained within a safe range.

3. In-Use Monitoring and Maintenance

(1) Real-Time Monitoring System

To detect potential explosion risks in a timely manner, a real-time monitoring system should be installed in the baghouse dust collector and piping system. The system can monitor key parameters such as dust concentration,

temperature and pressure. Sensors are installed inside the dust collector and at key positions of the piping to transmit monitoring data to the control center in real time. Once any parameter exceeds the preset safety threshold,

the system will issue an alarm immediately, reminding operators to take corresponding measures such as stopping equipment operation, conducting ash cleaning or activating the emergency pressure relief device.

(2) Regular Maintenance and Inspection

Regular maintenance and inspection of the baghouse dust collector and its piping system are important guarantees for safe operation. Maintenance content includes checking the wear of dust filter bags,

the operation effect of the ash cleaning system, and the sensitivity of pressure relief devices. Severely worn filter bags should be replaced in a timely manner to ensure filtration efficiency and prevent dust leakage.

At the same time, it is necessary to check whether the parameters such as jet pressure and frequency of the ash cleaning system are normal to ensure good ash cleaning effect.

Regular tests should be carried out on pressure relief devices to verify whether they can open and release pressure normally in emergency situations. In addition, the tightness of piping connections should be checked for air leakage,

and any problems found should be repaired in a timely manner to ensure the tightness and stability of the entire system.

(3) Personnel Training and Emergency Drills

The professional quality and emergency response capacity of operators are crucial to the safe operation of baghouse dust collectors. Enterprises should regularly organize safety training for operators to

make them familiar with the working principle, safe operation procedures and emergency treatment methods of baghouse dust collectors. The training content includes the hazards and preventive measures of dust explosions,

the operation methods of safety valves, and fire fighting. At the same time, emergency drills should be carried out regularly to simulate emergencies such as dust explosions,

allowing operators to master the emergency treatment process in practice and improve their ability to respond to sudden incidents, ensuring that quick and effective measures can be taken

when danger actually occurs to reduce casualties and property losses.

In summary, the explosion-proof safety measures for baghouse dust collectors handling flammable and explosive dust are a systematic project involving the design of the dust collector main body,

piping safety protection, in-use monitoring and maintenance, and personnel training. Only by fully and carefully implementing these measures can the risk of dust explosions be effectively prevented and controlled,

ensuring the safe and stable progress of industrial production.
