Centralized Dust Collection System for Paint Shop Sanding & Preparation - LEFILTER Solution
Product Introduction:
LEFILTER's system for paint preparation areas is designed to handle the mixed, abrasive, and potentially explosive dust found in automotive paint shops. The system centers on a large, central cartridge dust collector located outside the paint zone (often in a technical area). It utilizes fire-retardant, anti-static filter cartridges with a high dust-loading capacity. A critical component is our spark detection and extinguishing system integrated into the main ductwork, which can identify an ember from a sanding operation and automatically trigger a water spray to quench it before it reaches the filter. The collector features robust explosion vents and is connected to the sanding booths via a network of galvanized steel ductwork designed for abrasive service.
Application Area:
This system serves the sanding, polishing, and body preparation areas within an automotive OEM or repaint facility. Here, technicians sand body fillers, old paint layers, and primer, generating a complex dust composed of paint chips (which may contain lead in older coatings), polyester filler dust, and abrasive grain from sandpaper. This dust is highly abrasive to equipment, poses a respiratory health risk, and, most critically, can be explosive due to the organic content of paints and fillers. Allowing this dust to settle in the paint booth or mixing area would also catastrophically contaminate fresh paint jobs, leading to massive rework.

Our Solution:
LEFILTER provides a complete, code-compliant solution. Each downdraft sanding booth or prep station is equipped with integrated pick-up points connected to the central system. We design the airflow to provide excellent face capture velocity at the workbench, pulling dust away from the worker and down into the collection system. The central collector's automatic cleaning system ensures constant suction. The integrated spark protection is a non-negotiable safety feature for this application. Collected mixed waste is safely compacted in drums. Our system ensures a cleaner, safer working environment, protects the quality of the final paint job by preventing cross-contamination, and meets stringent NFPA and insurance carrier requirements for fire and explosion safety in paint facilities.
