What Are the Main Workshop Dust Removal Methods?

Workshop dust removal methods are divided according to the dust collection and purification principle, and the main methods include local dust removal, centralized dust removal, wet dust removal, dry dust removal and electrostatic dust removal. Each method has its own characteristics and applicable scenarios, which can be selected according to the workshop size, dust generation, dust characteristics and environmental requirements. The detailed introduction is as follows:

1. Local Dust Removal Method (Most Commonly Used)
Principle: Install a local dust collection hood near the dust generation point (such as polishing machine, crusher), capture the dust at the source through negative pressure, and send it to the small dust collector for purification through pipelines.
Characteristics: Targeted strong, high dust collection efficiency (≥95%), energy saving (small air volume), small floor area, convenient installation and maintenance.
Applicability: Single dust generation point, small and medium-sized workshops, mobile dust generation points (such as maintenance workshops, small batch production workshops).
Common equipment: Mobile pulse bag dust collector, small fixed pulse bag dust collector, local suction hood.

 2. Centralized Dust Removal Method
Principle: Connect all dust generation points in the workshop through pipelines, collect the dust uniformly into a centralized dust collector for purification, and discharge the clean gas after treatment.
Characteristics: Unified management, good dust removal effect, suitable for multiple dust generation points; large investment, large floor area, complex pipeline layout.
Applicability: Large-scale workshops, multiple fixed dust generation points (such as large factories, production lines, cotton mills, welding workshops).
Common equipment: Centralized pulse bag dust collector, centralized cartridge dust collector, fan, dust collection pipelines, ash discharge system.

3. Wet Dust Removal Method
Principle: Use water or alkaline solution as the medium, capture and purify dust through spray absorption, water film adsorption or foam adsorption. The dust particles are in contact with water droplets, adsorbed and agglomerated, and then settled to achieve dust removal.
Characteristics: Simple structure, low investment, good effect on high-temperature, high-humidity and viscous dust; easy to cause secondary water pollution, high water consumption, not suitable for water-sensitive dust.
Applicability: High-temperature workshops (such as foundries, steel mills), viscous dust workshops (such as sludge treatment workshops), occasions with low environmental requirements.
Common equipment: Spray tower, water film dust collector, foam dust collector.

4. Dry Dust Removal Method
Principle: Use dry filter materials (filter bags, filter elements) or inertial force to capture and purify dust, without using water as the medium, and the collected dust can be recycled directly.
Characteristics: No secondary pollution, high dust removal efficiency (≥99.5%), suitable for most dust types, easy to maintain; high investment in high-efficiency equipment, need to regularly replace filter materials.
Applicability: Most industrial workshops (such as woodworking, polishing, mining, chemical industry), especially occasions with water-sensitive dust and dust recovery needs.
Common equipment: Pulse bag filter, cartridge dust collector, cyclone dust collector, multi-tube ceramic dust collector.

5. Electrostatic Dust Removal Method
Principle: Use high-voltage electrostatic field to ionize the flue gas, make the dust particles carry electric charge, and then adsorb the charged dust particles on the positive and negative plates to achieve dust removal.
Characteristics: High dust removal efficiency (≥99.9%), large air volume, low resistance, suitable for high-temperature, large-air-volume flue gas; high investment, complex maintenance, sensitive to dust resistivity.
Applicability: Large-scale high-temperature workshops (such as power plant boilers, steelmaking workshops, large incinerators), occasions with large air volume and high dust concentration.

 6. Mixed Dust Removal Method
Principle: Combine two or more dust removal methods to make up for the shortcomings of a single method and improve the dust removal effect.
Common combinations: Cyclone dust collector (pre-treatment) + pulse bag filter (core purification); spray absorption (pre-treatment) + electrostatic dust removal (core purification); local dust collection + centralized purification.
Applicability: Harsh working conditions (high dust concentration, high temperature, high humidity, corrosive dust), occasions with strict emission requirements.
